Chimaira The Infection Review

I have to start by saying I was listening to The Venom Inside the 1st track on the record while I was writing this and I literarily got the fuck up and started banging my head, jumping till my glasses fell off. No matter how many times I listen to it its still fucking brutal.

They evolved in a weird way, all I can say is that there experimenting like psycho and I am in love with it, the 1st time I listened to the album I was like, hmmm they rushed it?. Well my answer is hell no they didn’t it sounds fucking amazing you just need to give it another listen and concentrate with every channel in your headphones or your speakers.

The album was recorded and mixed very well I think the vocal work or sound on the track wasn’t that ear catching but the guitar work Is just mad ass.

Try To Survive 9th track on the record, the 1st 30 secs of the track tell you this: Check this fucking killer riff out !Straight in your face. I cant say enough about how heavy the guitar work is. Simple yet so fucking heavy. Coming to the drumming side of the record, well not amazing and not bad I can say good enough, enough to keep you head banging which is good enough for me.

One weird thing I noticed is that some transitions between parts of the song are weird I don’t know if they meant it to be that way, weather they are trying something new or they couldn’t find ways to link them together.

The Heart Of It All 10th track on the record. A 14 min instrumental masterpiece and ill say masterpiece again. It’s a true work of art, its something you would listen to then look at your music player and go like what the fuck there’s no way that’s Chimaira then a few minutes into the song you go like huh?! It keeps you wanting to know what’s coming next. Lets just say , Go to the 1st music store next to you buy this fucking record and listen to 14mins of madness, Go now what are you waiting for!!!!?

Coming Alive The 3rd track on the record. I got one thing to say here, your going to be screaming coming allllive for the next 2 weeks randomly.

You can never get enough of matt’s killer ass raw simple yet heavy ass riffage and robs crazy ass shredding, but in this record it they sound eviler than ever. They experimented and implemented and I loved it, If you listened to it and skipped through it, go back and listen carefully, They are still doing there shit and I hope they keep doing it till I die, so I can die head banging to Resurrection!!!!!.

Id give this record a 8.4/10

Destroy and Dominate BABY!

No one can ever get enough of devil drivers pure raw riffage mad ass drums and Dez screaming his lungs out. Let’s get to the point, pray for villains is one hell of a release I can’t deny it, I listened to every track on the record over and over again so that when I tell you its not them you cant attack me.

They are taking a totally new approach (aka the Shogun Breed) that drifts miles away from what they started.
I’m not saying its not good or its not amazing or its not totally fucking brutal, Its brutal beyond your imagination but like I said comparing it to DevilDriver (2003) and The Fury Of Our Makers Hand (2005) its gutturally different. The thing that sucked me in the most was the drumming. There drummer stepped it up big time ,every track has a perfect drum line layered on it and recorded in uber quality. I cant say enough about the drums in this recorded It needs a blog of its own.

Was listening to a track with Iroar and at some point of the song Iroar was like are you sure this is devil driver not trivium. They are taking the whole ultra melodic approach with a bit of thrashy kick ass riffs. Personally I love the recorded but I expected more from everyone in the band except for the drummer, he went beyond my expectations. My personal favorite is Back With A Vengeance you’ll be banging your head till your die and probably disco dancing to it to.

Crap I almost forgot did you guys hear DevilDrivers lead guitarist bought a new Wah Wah pedal and hes annoyingly using it in ever track on the record. If you’re a fan of there old shit your going to be a abit disappointed and at the same time your going to worship the record. For new devil driver listeners you’re going to get knocked out. Dez is still doing his thing on every track, I noticed he’s been trying to experiment a little but not to much, on the other hand I got a wah wah overdose.

Devil Driver are still doing there thing but in a different way ( Shougany way) id give them a 7.7/10

But if i am to compare it to there old stuff id give it a 3/10

Check out the single ;

Psychostick are a "Humor-Core" band from Tempe, Arizona. The band fuses heavy metal and hardcore music with hilarious lyrics. Their debut album "We Couldnt Think Of A Title" has been getting great feedback, the band's debut and follow up album have both charted the Billboard's. While Psychostick are too awesome to tour for the "Sex, drugs and fame" they actually do it for the great food on the way from every city to another. The band finished recording their latest album "Sandwich" and are getting ready to unleash it onto the planet on May 5th.

Kick ass shredder Khalilson got the chance to have "a word" with Alex "Shmalex" Preiss the band's drummer about their upcoming album Sandwich, their influences, making fun of other bands, Weird Al Yankovic, and alot more.

Here's how it went:

Khalilson: First of all I'd like to say that I'm a huge fan of your previous album "We Couldn't Think of a Title", what can you tell us about your upcoming release "Sandwich"?

Alex: Well, Sandwich is a delicious collection of songs written from 2004-2008, mostly 08. It also features the first studio performances with the current lineup! We added Jake on 2nd guitar, and Jimmy on bass for this one, and like every other band to release a new album, I think it’s our best material to date.

Khalilson: Do you have any future plans of recording a Non Humor Record?

Alex: Not as Psychostick. This band is strictly a comedic metal band. Although, we do range from satire, to irony, to dark comedy, all the way to the occasional anecdote.

Khalilson: What are your influences and what bands are you listening to lately?

Alex: Lately, I have been listening to the new Thursday album a lot. That and I just got the new Prodigy! Awesome stuff. Besides that, Spitfire, Spylacopa, and all the regulars for me, Brand New, Alkaline Trio, The Hope Conspiracy.

Regarding influences, I have some for drumming, and others for songwriting. My favorite drummers are Travis Barker, Bryan Mantia, Tomas Haake, Chris Pennie, and Abe Cunningham. Bands that influence my Psychostick songwriting are probably Norma Jean, The Hope Conspiracy, Primus, and Hatebreed. How’s that?

Khalilson: How do people react when they see you live?

Alex: We get a few common reactions, actually. Sometimes we have people staring and seemingly not enjoying the show very much at all, but then we are flooded with compliments about how much they like it! I think that only happens in a town we haven’t played much before, and they are unsure of how to react to us. Then we just have some kids who like to be up front and sing, or kids who just want to mosh, like any other rock show. But my favorite reaction, regardless of how they express it, is that they are having a fun time. Oh course, we also get the occasional tough guy who doesn’t want to have fun and crosses his arms waiting for the next band to come on.

Khalilson: How did Pyschostick start. Whos idea was it?

Alex: Psychostick officially began in 2000, when Josh and Rob moved to Phoenix and met me and our first bass player. Before that, in the Psychostick “pre-production”, if you will, it was called Asinine. That pretty much just featured Josh who kept shifting instruments, and changing the lineup for a while until he moved. But once we were a solid lineup, we started recording demos that were just awful, and then started playing shows on Valentine’s Day, 2001.

Khalilson: Ever thought of making fun of other bands?

Alex: Oh, we do. Over the years, we have done a few live parodies of bands like Drowning Pool, Staind, and I think Def Leopard. Whoever plays “Pour some sugar on me”…that one. It’s fun, but we’re not Weird Al. He’s the best at that, and I don’t think we would get anywhere trying to be him. FUN FACT: Weird Al and I share the same birthday; October 23rd.

Khalilson: Whats the best show you guys ever did?

Alex: Tough question…can I name a few? The Sokol in Omaha, the Webster in Hartford, the Myth in Minneapolis, and the Warehouse in La Crosse. Any of these would qualify.

Khalilson: What countries are you guys planning on playing in next?

Alex: That’s another good question, but I’m not sure. Before we go anywhere, we need to get international distribution. We have an excellent group of people over at Rock Ridge doing our US distro, but they haven’t yet expanded to include the rest of the world. I would love to get a hold of an indie company that we could actually trust that could do that. Then will we be able to tour other countries. But I don’t know, maybe the UK?? I know we have a good following over there, but I have never been anywhere else outside of Mexico.

Khalilson: Apart from Psychostick, some of you guys are involved in a more serious band called "Evacuate Chicago" can you tell us about the band's music and how it differs from Psychostick ?

Alex: Evacuate Chicago is largely my own project. I’m only playing drums and doing the occasional back up vocals, but I wrote the 9 out of 12 songs. Josh did all of the guitars and main back ups, and Rob did the lead vocals. Josh did a lot of stuff actually, he wrote the remaining 3 songs, and he engineered and mixed it. But it’s a really personal, pissed of record I wrote when I was 19 and reading a lot of Alice Miller books. It’s very honest, thus the name “Veracity”.

Khalilson: Are you guys planning on releasing "Veracity" on CD ?

Alex: We are in fact! Chadd, the artist who did the latest Screaming Mechanical Brain cover did the art for this one as well, and it’s awesome. I can’t draw anything though, so I am easily impressed. But no, that guy rules. And now, as soon as we can afford to get it pressed, we will do so, and have it available online and at shows.

Khalilson: Thank you so much for your time, would you like to add anything?

Alex: Yeah, if you know a place where I can find something that is too spicy for me, I will give you a dollar. So far, this place called Firehouse Subs in San Antonio is the only one to come close!

Make sure you head over to the band's Myspace to get a taste (seriously!) of the band's awesome brand of metal, and find out how you can get your hands on "Sandwich" ... oh yea and and check out the band's Youtube channel for some hilarious videos. And lets all be on the look out for something crazy spicy for Alex.. The Hunt Is On !

I'd also like to thank Anthony Caroto the band's manager for helping us get the interview and for being so awesome.

Here's the band's video for their awesome song "Pluh" from their 2006 release " We Couldnt Think Of A Title"

Keep an eye out for alot more interviews and reviews from the always kick ass Khalilson !

One last thing I'd like to point you towards is the hilarious guest blog that the band's guitarist/vocalist Josh Key did for HeadBangersBlog.com

Get ready for a whole lotta METAL !

Alright so you've read reviews on here, also news and alot of interviews... but I dont remember the last time I've bashed an album on here, do you ? well the time is now ... around 4 am a couple of days ago, a sleepy Khalilson and myself decided to review (sure you can call it that too) the new Sonic Syndicate album "Love And Other Disasters" ...

The review is basically a chat log between me and Khalilson... where we tried to go through the album track by track ...

Here's a little quote from the log about what Khalilson thinks of the album to get an idea :

"(SK)--: BULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLSHIT!
that was straight up gay repetitive boring annoying and lame
(SK)--: thats
an all in one bullshit package
(SK)--: with a freshness seal"

Got an idea of how this is gonna go down ?

Alright,
(SK) is Khalilson and iRoar would be me... here goes:

*To the right next to the chat log, you'll see a scroll bar, use it.

(SK)--: so wer gona do it
track by track?

iRoar: hmmm, I suppose

(SK)--: so
track 1 on 3 lol

iRoar: 1
2
3 !!!!!!!

(SK)--: BABAA
BABAB

iRoar: TENENEN TENENEN

(SK)--: TNENENENNE!

(SK)--: hm
this song is boring
as fuck.

(SK)--: except for the chorus the clean asswipe
is intresting

iRoar: well the thing is, when "Engaged" first hit, and the chorus took over all I could think of would be they need to slow down on the formula of overlaying the guttural screaming with clean singing for a chorus

(SK)--: true true

iRoar: its becoming their signature sound

(SK)--: its nice
its not bad
but musicaly booooring track

iRoar: totally ...

(SK)--: see thats nice

iRoar: it just seems like a rehashed opener

(SK)--: this part was nice
chorus is fun to the ears

(SK)--: rest just Lame
Reptitive drum lline
nothing creative watsoever

iRoar: through OUT THE FRIGGIN SONG !

(SK)--: if this wer a Instrumental
id be like
GAAAAAAAAAAAY!
bullshit

iRoar: HAHAHAHA ! i could imagine you burning the cd while playin a rippin solo !

(SK)--: haha
i dont do solos
i do riffs biatcha
track 2?

iRoar: ummm I like how it hits at first, very umm simple .... but again the overlaying vocals are overused
the thing about the double vocal range is that its fun to the ears

iRoar: but if over burned ... will seem like a boring breakdown done over and over again

(SK)--: true true
very repetitive

(SK)--: both in guitar work and drumming

iRoar: totally !

(SK)--: track 2?

iRoar: eh..
how about the band's first single
I think its got alot of colors to it

(SK)--: what single

iRoar: Jack Of Diamonds
(we are listening to it right ?)

(SK)--: um yeah sorry
hahahhaha

(SK)--: on 3
hit it

iRoar: 1
2
3 !!!!

(SK)--: yaay

iRoar: Alright so what do you think of the video
?

(SK)--: hum bla bla
mainstreamish
BUT THE CHICK!
made me
enjoy it
and it was fun

iRoar: Karin is HOTT !

(SK)--: its good but not amazing

iRoar: ARRR AT KARIN !

(SK)--: yea
bab baba
baba
baba
baba
baba

iRoar: They tried to set up a fun video

(SK)--: its fun
cuz of karin

iRoar: hope for the best plan for the worst !
OOOO YAYAAYAYAYA !

(SK)--: thats it
its childish dude

(SK)--: can i drum for them plz

iRoar: honestly one of the weakest points of the album, is the limited variety in sound

(SK)--: baaaaaaaaaa
neeeeeeeeeee

iRoar: so basically they are still very basic

(SK)--: this track is wikid
love the bass line!

iRoar: vich ?
we are still listening to jack ?

(SK)--: um yeah
rnt u
?

iRoar: Yupzy !

(SK)--: its kool
yay
YAY
he
actualy
changed

(SK)--: the beat
OMG
in the last 10 secs of the song

iRoar: HAHAHA !

(SK)--: dude

iRoar: the drums could be the weakest point of them all so far

(SK)--: the vocal work is amazing
beyond amazng
but
i dono
they just
Stick to one RIff

(SK)--: and play it diffrently
stick up a kick ass intro
but still this songs 1st 1min
is just amazing

(SK)--: the rest makes u go like hmm
mkay

iRoar: yea, this song is very easy to get into

(SK)--: yea
and
i loved the keyboards
while i aint a big fan of keyboard work in metal

iRoar: this song should be shipped to MTV asap

(SK)--: yea
mtv like this crap

iRoar: I mean if this is not an accessible track from a "metalcore/melodeath" band then I dont know what is.

(SK)--: nice easy song to understand

iRoar: totally

(SK)--: and fun

iRoar: and their clean singer shows off his range on it nicely

(SK)--: yep

iRoar: holly crap we'r already on track 5

iRoar: thats one little issue with this album
I really feel like the whole album is rushed in

iRoar: like the band, was rushed to release the album

(SK)--: personaly
when i got it i skipped through all the tracks til i got to this one
all the others wer just plain

(SK)--: not intresting

iRoar: hahahaha the song i stopped at was "Damage Done"

iRoar: the album is very commercialized

(SK)--: um
u mean
damage control?

iRoar: LoL yea !!

(SK)--: mkay
so which song now

iRoar: powershifta

(SK)--: on 3

iRoar: 1
2
3 !!!
Again with the big bang opener
but this time with a heavier layer of keyboards

(SK)--: haha
thrashy
big taym

iRoar: totallness !

(SK)--: ok
the thing i liked bout these guys
where the fun chorus's
and the chorus here sucks

(SK)--: but the Thrashy riffage is fun

iRoar: its like a playground sing along

(SK)--: omg
GAAAY!

iRoar: and the kids are jumping the ropes or something

(SK)--: see dude agn
Verse
Chorus
or

(SK)--: Pre chorus
then chrous
then
Verse
then Pre Chorus
Chorus agn
Same shit
over and over

iRoar: very "pop" !

(SK)--: hmm

(SK)--: ok
im expecting
a breakdown
SEEE!
GAAAAAAAAAAAY
chorus agn

iRoar: LOL !

(SK)--: i expected a breakdown or Solo
or anything diffrent

iRoar: more overlaying vocals !

(SK)--: That
Was overal
The worst shit i heard
till now

(SK)--: BULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLSHIT!
that was straight up gay Reptitive boring annoying and lame

(SK)--: thats
an all in one bullshit package

(SK)--: with a freshness seal
u gota add that in the review
!

iRoar: LOL ! Noted !

iRoar: I think these guys could release a classic (get kevin talley though)
they have a solid idea ... but their raping it

(SK)--: na dude

iRoar: the album is extremly poppy

(SK)--: they are just
playin it al to fast
Rushin it
big time

(SK)--: i think if they put
more time into it
and stopped
consentratn
on a single Chorus
through out the entire song

(SK)--: theyd be waay better

iRoar: true, they are focusing mainly on choruses, which I still think is raped to the bone on this release ...
they are making sure to have a fun chorus
and throw in the usual formula surrounding it

(SK)--: yea
more like throw in
anything
to surrond it

(SK)--: plus there sorta melodic right
i didnt see no melody
or theme int he song

(SK)--: its just
Some gay ass
Power chords
OVER!and over

(SK)--: and power shifter
i don see no power
at all n da song

(SK)--: maybe cuz they stuck in a small thrashy riff
then its power?

iRoar: LoL ... i suppose the power was in the video

(SK)--: omg the chrous
is bedaaan
NEEEK!

(SK)--: They had an idea going on wid dat thrashy ass riff
they ruined it

(SK)--: notw
note
if u listen carefuly
the thrashy part
they play it a few times
palm muted
then they open the strings

(SK)--: just to make it sounds diffrent
Thats abc of rock

iRoar: simple
exactly

iRoar: the album's whole blueprint
is pop

(SK)--: i feel like they didnt compose this

iRoar: the album was produced by Per Nilsson god of all metal pop music

(SK)--: more like
some pop dude
gave them tabs
haha

iRoar: its a maiden riff ripped

(SK)--: dude
Remove
The F from the word shift
thats the song name
Power Shit

iRoar: apparently that song really pissed you off
(are you listeing to red eyed friend ?)

(SK)--: nop
on 3?

iRoar: you dont have the album in order do you ?

(SK)--: apparently
not the same
as u

iRoar: DOH !!

(SK)--: 01. Engaged ( 4:26)
02. Hellgate: Worcester ( 3:23)
03. Jack Of Diamonds ( 3:41)
04. My Escape ( 4:10)

(SK)--: can take u
to endless possibillites
we'll see what happens
OMG!

(SK)--: ya bedan mayten omi
back
to verse
wana bet

(SK)--: there gona to chorus agn
after say
4 more counts

iRoar: dude you gotta keep in mind they are not going for a technical or progressive sound... they want the pop song structure

(SK)--: stilll
its copy paste
in every song
if u wana take it as pop

iRoar: yup !

(SK)--: they did a good job
in makin it sound
SUPER POP!

(SK)--: 90% pop
10% metal
2% metal
ma3lesh
98% pop

iRoar: LoL !
well comparing it to the rest of the pop releases it'll be alot more metal

iRoar: they are a mainstream band

(SK)--: no

iRoar: (hence how they all look)

(SK)--: they are bedan
very bedan

iRoar: Haha, shaklak etbadan menhom

(SK)--: neek

iRoar: but I'd still keep faith in them ...

(SK)--: i doubt
if they had time
they might have been better
there a 50% chance
s*

iRoar: I think they just need another few years of touring up their sleeves before releasing a solid album

(SK)--: or
they need to sit
FOR A YEAR!
THINK!
and compose

iRoar: hopefully down the line they'll bring out the best of each other (and feature karin in playboy)

(SK)--: well
they are either
gona get better
by time
cuz allot of bands do
or
they are gona be the saaaaaaaaame
and have karin

(SK)--: as the only reason
we listen to them
or
more like watch them

iRoar: hopefully we'll find out with their next release
so affliction ?

Coming Up:

Iris Divine - 4 Song Demo

And the Metallica review.
Release Date: 06/10/2008

The 1st thing that attracted me to this release was the album name (Murder The Dance) sounded so kool, I always like to interpret an album name with the music, just to give a small example one of my all time favorite tracks as a kid ( the devils dance ) for
Metallica that track made me actually picture a psychotic dance.

Straight off from the 1st track (Knife Fight in a Phone Booth)
They hit you hard with one hell of a scream and some weird riff (Weird Not in bad way Weird in a killer way) if your a vocalist in a band you should listen to these
guys Noah can do some amazing screaming seriously, some bands there front men ruin there reputation because they suck but Noah pulls it off weather he’s screaming or singing in a clean voice.

The 1st track was a nice fun track the 2nd track (Sullivan) is pretty much my all time favorite track in this release I love the way they arranged the track the chorus that sticks in your head straight away from the 1st time you listen to it. Although I felt the riffs are kind of repetitive but weather they are or not the end output is just straight up killer, then comes the solo, wasn’t very interesting the same shit everyone’s doing but it was good as it fits in the arrangement and I didn’t like the outro that much wasn’t very creative, but still its one of my favorite tracks, After listening to it you will be going like this
( Sullllllivaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!!!)

The 3rd Track
(Murder Dance) i excepted something Wikid but didn’t get what I expected really it starts off with some really complicated arrangement which sounds Killer but didn’t get anything out of the track really except for the fact that Noah is doing some
killer screaming and the drummer is riding his drum kit like a psychopath. I would probably listen to this track again just to listen to Noah Screaming and the drummer other than that wasn’t attractive at all.

4th Track (The Sleeping Beauty) 1st time I listened to this I seriously repeated the intro 5 times in row, every band has to put there signature mark in there stuff so there different than others
.This track is straight up killer from the intro the rest gets a little repetitive but who cares its freaking brutal, And I cant lay a comment on the solo totally loved it simple yet so perfect.

If you want to try listening to something new or different than the same
Old shit u should give these guys a shot.

All I can say is that they are really doing a great job in sounding different.
Amazing Vocalist, Crazy ass drumming (Very Creative), Killer Riffage , and one hell of a bassist.

7.7/10

Here's the video for "Sullivan"

Khalilson took some time out of getting ready for his upcoming gig with Amulet at the upcoming Metal Accord Halloween event, to start off his posting journey by reviewing "Beyond The Unknown" by Ohio's deathcore act From The Shallows.

I'll leave you with Khalilson's review,

From The Shallows - Beyond The Unknown
Release Date: May 8, 2007

You know straight off this album is going to be killer from the intro track, a nice slow build up intro followed by a killer riff and some seriously shocking drum work they end the intro track with an ordinary breakdown. The intro really caught my attention to check out the rest of the release.

Battle axe (2nd Track) is almost like any deathcore track wasn’t very impressive and the drumming was kind of too loud, the 1st time I listened to it I jumped to the next track but later I discovered that the good shit is at the end of the track they are really experimenting with different styles of drumming in break downs and the guitar work is unfucking believable.

Lets get to the main point , "Under A Killing Moonlight A Fire Is Awakening" now this track is seriously one of my favorite death core tracks of all time, 1st time I listened to it I was like seriously shocked this shit can tear your roof apart. Psychotic Drumming Unbelievable Riffage and some Brutal ass Vocals and if your a deathcore fan it has the, I seriously don’t know what to say, the Fucking Wickedest Most Brutal Break Down In History! They end the track with a nice smooth acoustic melody. This track is seriously what’s going to give these guys their reputation.

The Chalice Of Mankind (5th Track) is Sludgy as fuck. It gives u straight up Heavy fast Sludgy Riffage and blasting these guys know what there doing seriously, the solo wasn’t anything new but still quiet impressive. Ill leave the rest of the album for you to listen to so I don’t ruin it for u. This Shit Goes In "One Of The Most Brutal Releases Of 2007" and easly tops most of 2008's releases.

I’ve listened to a lot of New Age Deathcore in 2008 but these guys are taking it to a new level.

Rating 8.8/10

If your a DeathCore fan you must own this!!!!!
