Just an hour ago. The beasts of the middle east, NERVECELL, confirmed that they will be supporting heavy metal icons METALLICA on their upcoming show in Abu Dhabi, UAE at the Yas Arena on October 25th.
The show has just turned from a big international act performing on new territory. To... History in the making!
[PRESS RELEASE] You may have seen a video circulating on the internetthat showed Kirk Hammett kicking a beach ball into a kid at the end of a Metallica gig a few nights ago. You may have asked yourself why nobody has edited the clip to silly sound effects. Wonder no more, as such a clip now exists and can be seen below. (courtesy ofMetal Injection)
Last week,I posted aboutthe Big Four (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax) performing a cover of Diamondhead's "Am I Evil" live on stage together for the first time. But the video was recorded during the concert's screening in a cinema.
A pro shot version of the performance is now available online, and can be viewed below:
This is one awesome thrash metal supergroup. It's like a badass orchestra of badasses (and Joey Belladona...) completely slaying a badass Diamond Head song (Am I Evil.)
The video was recorded with a camera during the live screening in a cinema, so far that's the best quality available of the performance on the youtubes.
Revolver Magazine's Chris Krovatin recently caught up with Slayer's Kerry King in Austria and Megadeth's Dave Mustaine in Warsaw, Poland to get their thoughts on the current "Big Four" tour that includes, METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH, and ANTHRAX.
Excerpts from the interview can be read below:
Revolver: How did the "Big Four" tour come about?
King: It was something that was trying to be made happen, so it just took everyone signing off on it. I gotta tell you, man, I can't believe, in the 27 years since we put our first record out, that no one's tried to make this happen. Because now that it is happening, it's so cool, it's so important, that every territory in the world wants it. I don't know what took so long.
Mustaine: We had some opportunities to do these festivals, and we had been doing the Carnage dates [with SLAYER], which were of course so popular in the States and Canada. For me, personally, I didn't see it coming… Having dinner with Lars [Ulrich] the other night, he told me that he had talked to SLAYER's tour manager a year and a half ago about whether or not this was gonna happen, and I thought, God, I'm so glad I didn't know about this a year and a half ago, because I would've had to spend every day with that "I've got a big gig coming" brain.
Revolver: For a long time, it seemed like there was bad blood between you guys, specifically between SLAYER and MEGADETH, and MEGADETH and METALLICA. What squashed that beef?
King: Before we did the Australian and Japanese run with MEGADETH, I was reading the Revolver SLAYER issue, and reading this interview we did with Dave. And I just couldn't remember why I wasn't friends with this dude anymore — I could not remember what I was upset about. So we get to the airport, and I saw him coming out of the lounge, and I came up, shook his hand, and said, "Hey, dude, I don't think I've talked to you in about 15 years!" We have a shitload of dates coming up, and honestly, when I've talked to him, I remember the guy I dug 25 years ago.
Mustaine: We've just learned how to step back see what we stand for in the world, the "Big Four," and how each band has contributed to that in its own way. I had a huge turnaround on my whole outlook at life walking into this tour, these dates, with just a brand new relationship. The first person I talked to was [METALLICA guitarist] Kirk [Hammett]. We talked for a while, and then at dinner, I sat next to James [Hetfield] and Lars, and it was cool to look at it — just how much we changed the world… Twenty years ago, this tour probably wouldn't have happened — we were all young, and we weren't dealing with the fame too well.
Revolver: What do SLAYER represent in the "Big Four?"
King: We represent all that is evil in the "Big Four," and historically, I think we've represented thrash the best, but it's funny, just how these four bands from this same movement went off to become different entities.
Revolver: What about MEGADETH?
Mustaine: Our lyrics are a little deeper than some of the others, but we're each different in that way — SLAYER's lyrics are really different from ANTHRAX's. We're really just like a four-paned window, you know — four different vantage points, all getting across that same message.
Revolver: Since METALLICA is headlining these shows, Kerry, should they be worried about getting blown off the stage by one of you?
King: The one thing I'm not happy about — and we didn't know this until we got here — is that it's not always the "Big Four" in a row. Some days, there are bands in between us, and that's kind of a bummer. A night ending with ANTHRAX, MEGADETH, and SLAYER would be brutal. I have nothing against those other bands, but I didn't know about that. But yeah, we open for METALLICA some nights. I've seen METALLICA twice on this tour, and they may not have all the spiel and bells and whistles they had in the States, but they've been killing it. They're pros, man, they'll have no problem. That said, man, our set's brutal, and it ain't there to make friends.
So it's really happening. Thrash Metal's "Big Four," Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax will in fact be performing on the same bill as part of this year's installment of Sonisphere Festival in Bulgaria.
The show will be airing live around the world in select cinemas.Metal Hammer UKannounced earlier today the full list of cinemas around the U.K. that will be airing the show:
"Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax are to have their show in Bulgaria on June 22nd broadcast to cinemas all over the world. A statement from the bands reads: “For one night only, metalheads around the world can experience history: On Tuesday, June 22, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax perform on one stage together, and through the wonders of satellite technology, you can be part of this historic concert event, broadcast exclusively to select movie theatres around the world. Beyond the limited European festival dates, there are not additional tour dates planned for this extraordinary line-up.”
It makes it a little clear why Anthrax had to rush back to Joey Belladonna, since touring is not in John Bush's heart anymore, and he wanted to keep his artistic integrity by not re-recording some other dude's material for the next Anthrax album, I applaud John for his decision.
I also hope that backstage footage from the show, would be made available. Because with Lars, Kerry King, and Dave Mustaine's cocks egos in the same venue, only the skies the limit for hilarity.
A couple of years ago I came across a Finnish band called Am I Blood, the first thing that caught my attention was the fact that their singer (Janne) sounds like the Finnish bastard son of James Hetfield and not in a Matt Heafy kinda way.
Naturally I was like, Che'yeah! and (being the Scandinavian metal sucker that I am) went ahead and gave their CD "The Truth Behind The Dying Sun" (yes they even used a form of death in the title) a shot, and was hit by a load of Finnish'Tallica.
While Diablo's front manRainar Nygard looks A LOT like The James Hetfield, Am I Bloodtake care of sound duties. My point is, isn't it about time we get a Metallica-core or a Hetfield-core? Or maybeJames needs to check his family tree, or his lawyer? Either way, here's the song that caught my attention a few years back.
Metallica recently performed in Colombia for the first time in over 11 years, and their visit was a little chaotic to say the least.
Hundreds of ticket-less fans caused riots during the concert, resulting in a number of injuries.
Colombia Reportsclaims that a group of fans contacted one another prior to the concert through Facebook, notifying each other of the planned riot.
"Authorities implemented security measures as heavy as the band's music, with some 1,500 police employed to stand guard during the event, as well as four tanks and several police trucks."
That's fucking metal!
Footage of the riots is now available online and can be viewed below:
Thrash Metal's "Big Four" (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax) will finally share the same stage at the next Sonisphere Festival taking place at the Bemowo Airport in Poland as well as a another performance in the Czech Republic among other dates to be announced.
The world wide web has been abound with speculation on a possible “BIG FOUR” tour for several months. Now, SONISPHERE can exclusively reveal that METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX will play together for the first time in history, in a move that will have metalheads across the globe frenzied with excitement.
Says LARS ULRICH/METALLICA of this historic announcement:
"Who would have thought that more than 25 years after its inception, thrash metal's big 4 would not only still be around and more popular than ever, but will now play together for the first time...what a mindfuck! Bring it on!"
“It's about fucking time this happened,” said SLAYER’s KERRY KING. “and about time the fans finally get what they want. This is fucking awesome.”
Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian agrees, commenting on the enormity of the announcement.
“People have been talking about these four bands playing together since 1984. That's twenty-six years of expectation!!! And the thing is, I believe not only will we live up to the expectations, we will shatter them!! No other four bands as influential as the four of us have ever done this.
Imagine if The Beatles, Stones, The Who and Zeppelin had done shows? Or Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Motorhead? Well, I may be getting into some rarified air here but as a fan, that's how big I feel this is.”
These four legendary acts broke out of the underground thrash movement to dominate the metal world in the 1980s, selling millions of records and packing arenas across the globe. The metal giants have never before all shared the same stage, despite huge demand.
But on 16th June 2010, METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX will take to the SONISPHERE stage at Bemowo Airport, Poland, to make the dreams of headbangers the world over become a reality. A second Big Four appearance is planned for SONISPHERE CZECH REPUBLIC three days later, with more SONISPHERE shows featuring the awesome combo to be announced in the coming days and weeks.
“This is a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity for Heavy Metal “Fans” to see the four greatest Heavy Metal “Bands” in American History back together on one stage” concludes MEGADETH mainman DAVE MUSTAINE.
“If there are any heads left at the end of this Festival that haven’t banged, they don’t belong there.”
Metallica's "The Unforgiven III" is up for a Grammy this year along with AC/DC, Alice In Chains, Lick My ParkLinkin Park and Nickelback.
The band posted the following comment about the nomination:
"Tonight the fine folks as the Recording Academy announced that they have nominated us for a Grammy this year for the track 'The Unforgiven III' from Death Magnetic in the category of Best Hard Rock Performance.
It is an honor to be included with our fellow nominees ALICE IN CHAINS, AC/DC, LINKIN PARK, and NICKLEBACK."
The Nominees for "Best Hard Rock Performance" are:
AC/DC - War Machine [Black Ice]
Alice In Chains - Check My Brain [Black Gives Way To Blue]
Linkin Park - What I've Done [Road To Revolution: Live At Milton Keynes]
Metallica - The Unforgiven III [Death Magnetic] (sneaky bastards)
Woah, the judging panel for this year's Grammy Awards picked some awesome metal albums for their "Best Metal Performance" (last year Metallica's My Apocalypse won, but it was a meh moment)
I hope Lamb Of God gets it, just for the sheer reason that if Randy Blythe goes up to receive the award, he'll probably cause a historic heavy metal moment by putting his nutts on Taylor Swift's head or peeing on R. Kelly (what ever happened with his case anyway?)
At the same time, Dave Mustaine and Kerry King are involved in this (they already had a "ultimate dick" face off earlier this year.) so if Megadeth wins Dave will probably rub it in Kerry's face till he grows grammy horns, and if Slayer wins, Dave will probably rub his balls on Kerry's face till he grows (more) pubes... so in both cases we'r defiantly in for some jokes.
Nickelback - Burn It To The Ground [Dark Horse]
If Metallica wins this, Alice In Chains and AC/DC should gang up and beat them (until James Hetfield notices, that's when they run!).
Turns out there's an 85 year old that thinks Metallica are still rocking >insert snarky comment here<
Margaret Priebe, who's a cancer survivor has been a fan of Metallica for a decade now. After her story was reported by the St. Petersburg Times, a Metallica PR contacted and invited her to Metallica's upcoming show at the St. Pete Times Forum for a backstage meet and greet.
While on the Mayhem Fest tour, Kerry King and Dave Mustaine decided to act their usual and slap one another with their infinite dickness in the meantime others are trying to put together a tour that will probably crush all that is not metal to dust if it happens, obviously I'm talking about "The Big Four" (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax) going on tour together.
Dave Mustaine and Kerry King are already calling each other names, and soon will be giving a wedgy to one another.
“I don’t know Lars that well and I haven’t heard it from Lars but apparently he’s talking to somebody about it. Maybe us, Metallica, Megadeth (and), I think he even threw in Anthrax and I said in this day and age, I know we had that time together but how do you leave out Machine Head? There’s better options than Anthrax and that’s nothing against Anthrax, but they’ve just been in pieces for quite some time and that doesn’t make as much sense to me.”
Scott Ian decided to twitterfy the situation by responding with the following tweet:
While Dave Mustaine apparently has no clue about the whole thing stating the following:
"Regarding rumors of the 'Big Four' [METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX] touring, I have heard nothing about this, other than gossip, and I don't think that anyone would turn it down, but there are a lot of things that would have to be worked out. A LOT!
Metallica's Robert Trujillo mentioned the following about the rumors when asked in a recent interview with Metromix:
"I think it's great. We've had a few different conversations on the subject. I'm friends with (SLAYER's) Kerry King and had dinner with him a few months back, and it came up there. I think (MEGADETH's) Dave Mustaine is amazing. I've never had a problem with him personally. I think it'd be great if METALLICA shared the stage with his band. METALLICA's still great friends with (ANTHRAX's) Scott Ian. There's a lot of history there. I think it'd be great for metal. I don't think all four bands have played together at the same time." If this tour actually happens, backstage footage will be priceless.
Believe it or not, that's Corey Taylor from Slipknot, he was the host of Monday's Kerrang! Awards and from what it seems like, the dude went balls out about the whole idea of hosting the show, and decided to go well looking like this (pointing at the picture above) Corey has an unlimited credit limit at the bank of awesomeness, and I'm pretty sure that when the awards footage surfaces, it'll be hilarious.
ANYWAY! the winners list has been released, while some of them are douchefull, others well... there has been better times...
America's first ever Metal Awards show the "Revolver Golden Gods Awards" was held on a Tuesday night (April 7th) at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles. (yes this is a first in America, but more than a couple have been taking place in Europe over the years, like Metal Hammer's version for example)
The show was hosted by comedian/full blown metal head Brian Posehn.
While alot of metal heavy weights where honored (Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, Vinnie Paul Abbott, Jeff Hanneman, Kerry King and more) the awards also featured a "special DJ set" from Corey Taylor (Slipknot). The show will air May 2nd, on MTV2 and will probably surface online shortly after.
Metal Injection's Rob! caught up with a ton of awesome bands at the first ever "Black Carpet" (yea calling it black makes it metal... ChA'ME ON!)
Metallica is having one hell of a world tour currently hitting.. well the world, a little while back the band was crossing by the lands of England, where a friend got the chance to attend one hell of a night of thrashing Metallica (and the new stuff also :P) the band also premiered "My Apocalypse" as part of their live set for the first time at the LG Arena in Birmingham. well without further to do, I'd like to welcome and thank Fetait for his first time contribution to the blog.

Before attempting to read the following review I thought I should warn you as a reader that whoever wrote this review had a pleasure writing his first proper review on a concert performed by such a legendary band – Metallica. Yes! A Portsaidi citizen (That’s like an Egyptian redneck or something, for those of you who don’t know) who has lived all his life in the Gulf witnessed Metallica live! That was simply a feeling similar to taking a cruise on an airplane for the fun of it, finding a thousand bucks under your bed, or meeting your childhood best friend on Mars – things that make u go : huh… WOW!
On a serious note, we can kick off by describing how the show started. There were 2 opening bands, one of which was the awesome Machine Head, but because I am a looser, I came late and missed the first band (The Sword). Machine head performed pretty well (they were a bit too heavy for my brains though), but let’s stick to the main topic for a while – Metallica. An expected Intro: the Ecstasy of Gold. It was still pretty awesome even though I’m used to loving it without the S&M symphonies. I can’t think of any better way to start their show. A good way of transition was by playing a song that starts off slowly at the beginning but then hits you with all the thrash stuff you came for: That Was Just Your Life! Yes, a very good start, in terms of making people happy by playing a new song from Death Magnetic, and by the introduction of the “heart beats” as a smooth way to get in business. After that, my personal favorite from the latest album was played: End of the Line. It’s my current ring tone, and I am used to hearing it quite a few times everyday, so I simply had fun sharing my ringing tone with the whole crowd! Kept on getting a feeling that my dad is calling though!!
“We realized that what goes well with the new stuff is the… OLD STUFF”- James Hetfield. To be honest, as long as “Sad But True” was played, I am happy. It was one of the few songs that got me into metal to begin with, so it has a special place in my brain... I mean heart… Umm, good days! Master of Puppets... how could this get any better? It was awesome!! I can’t really say that it’s like no other show because I’ve never been to any other Metallica show, but now I get what the fuss is all about! :D One of the surprises came in action when they played “One”. I am sure you know that airplanes and war sound at the beginning of the song… yea, they played that... but with fire effects, that was really well performed. Fire synchronized with the war sound effects, and after these few minutes, James comes out of nowhere and the song kicks off. One of the things you don’t see on TV everyday is a solo performance by Kirk. A huge dark hall, with only one dude with all the lights on him, challenging himself with his awesome solo. Want to hear another shock? Nothing Else Matters. Yes, a long Kirk solo followed by Nothing Else Matters! (Although it wasn’t as awesome as the original record). Maybe he’s just getting old you know. Have you noticed the white hair in the Guitar Hero Metallica Tv ads? Haha, yeah…
Ironically, I cant remember the last song they played :(. Maybe I was just knocked off! I can remember how the show ended though. Loads of huge black balloons bearing the Metallica logo coming out of no where from the roof!! Have you seen the video for Broken, Beat and Scarred? Yeah, I think bits of that video were captured from the Birmingham show, or maybe another arena that looked exactly like it! Back to the balloons, I really wished I got my hands on one! Looking at the bright side, I got a Metallica t-shirt for half price at the end of the show (that didn’t fit my size, I need to hit the gym soon to start showing off with the t shirt!). Why does the merch always run out? :D
I'd like to thank Fetait for his awesome review for this very awesome show by METALLICA!!!

Last but certainly not least the video for the live world premiere of "My Apocalypse" (Copyrights: Metallica.com 2009)
The first time I heard "Death Magnetic" I felt like it was a really good....Metallica cover band trying to write Metallica music.
I would like to say something before I go on with the review, the only reason I'll be comparing "Death Magnetic" to previous albums, is because alot of people claim that its a true come back for Metallica, dont get me wrong its a much much better release, but saying its their THRASH come back, thats something completely different.
The album starts off with "That Was Just Your Life", it opens up with a simple pulse like a heart beat if you may, building up to clashes from Lars, and a sting like riff, which all results in a frantic charge up for a thrashy Hetfield to start yelling words into the mic.
"That Was Just Your Life" does give hope for the forty something year old thrashers. The solo is a welcome back for Kirk, who has alot of fun shredding some speedy metal licks one after the other.
Robert Trujillo plays some groovy bass lines on "Death Magnetic" like on "End Of The Line"
There is alot of old school Metallica in "Death Magnetic" and the band does indeed execute some of their classic thrash formulas once again (once again..nothing new here), that where abandoned and left for dead on previous releases.
But does the thrash live up to the power of the golden albums from back in the days of "Alcoholica"? (hmmm, James Hetfield went to rehab during the recording sessions for St.Anger)
Producer Bob Rock is responsible for all releases since "The Black Album" all the way to "St.Anger" but an online petition signed by more then 20,000 Metallica fans, pushed the band to recruit "Reign In Blood"'s producer Rick Rubin to add the final touches to "Death Magnetic"
Rubin told the band to write the unwritten half of "Master Of Puppets", with all do respect for Rubin..but, Come ON! I know that he means well, but such a proposition is ludicrous... Metallica where a pissed off thrash metal band when they released "Master Of Puppets" and the anger and fury that was locked up in them back then, SHINED and thats why the aggression is real and original on the almighty "Master Of Puppets", but when you put four 40 something year olds together, who sued Napster for illegal downloading back in 2000 (and most of us know how that back fired badly !) you will NEVER get the same result.
That doesnt mean Rick didnt help make this a better album, although there has been a great amount of complains about the sound quality being compressed. (mainly because the album was targeted at iTunes and MP3 consumers, HAHA!) all fingers where pointed at sound engineer Ted Jensen, who said he "wasn't proud to be associated with the project"
The album cries for the glory days, with snuck in ingredients of the hard rock era Metallica.
Honestly I dont see a better time for the Tallica to release such an album, with all the new bands bringing back Thrash, its the perfect time to remind everyone that "Hey, You know we used to do that too!, we'r still cool huh?".
But I hate it when someone tells me this is a return to form for Metallica, It...Is...NOT!. All the years of making simpler hard rock music, took its toll on their pissed off speed metal side, the band ends up sounding like they are desperately trying to recapture their glory days, but ends up making this album more of a tribute to the old Metallica.
"The Day That Never Comes" really is a great way to start promoting the album, its got ingredients from all past Metallica releases, and yes a "Fade To Black" like opener, which I want you to keep in mind for a minute.
While "The Unforgiven III" wasnt really necessary to do *punches himself in the balls* (Why wont you forgive him already!). The previous 2 where enough and sounded constant, but the third one was really not needed, the way "The Day That Never Comes" plays out at first,... to me could pass more as the third installment of James' lost voyage, then the song itself.
The band throws in an instrumental in the album this time again, "Suicide and Redemption" marking almost 10 minutes. Which is the first time for an instrumental since "And Justice For All...."
"The Judas Kiss" is pretty ripping at times, kick ass chorus (BOW DOWN!), melting fast solo, but the verses are boring.
While "All Nightmare Long" is a perfect high speed car chase song, makes you wanna push the fucking pedal to the metal indeed.
This is the first time Robert Trujillo is contributing to the Bass lines (besides performing live since joining Metallica) on St.Anger producer Bob Rock handled bass duties (which we all watched on "Some Kind Of Monster")
The lyrics on the album are very predictable at times, generic, "What dont kill ya, makes ya Mooee Straaaounguhh!) James might consider becoming a country singer when he's older, apparently he's starting to hint it more then just "Mama Said"
"Death Magnetic" is a polished, thrashier modern hard rock album. the release does have alot of speed, the solos are back, bass is audible, drums could be the weak link at times, but Lars still hits some awesome combos.
All in all, Death Magnetic is a much better release then 2003's screw up, and does have alot of energy similar to which was on old school Metallica releases. But Metallica is at a different place in their life today, and if they're music is like they say comes from the heart then the aggression level is on a whole other scale, then when they first began their journey. Its so logical *smacks you*
I am not one of the haters of the post Black Album releases (yes I consider the Black Album still in the league) in fact alot of songs from the hard rock Metallica, are totally Rock N' Roll.
But if you loved Metallica for their thrash (dont forget that back with the rise of the "Big Four" in Thrash Metal, this was a sound heard for the FIRST time), you have every right to bash the living mother fucking shit out of every release after ...And Justice, because Metallica wanted to be "true", acted loyal, said so much things to gain their fans love, until they decided to go in a different path (Did you watch the video for One?..Exactly !)
Metallica tried alot of colors in the music industry (while some where just down right embarrassing) they still managed to stay in the spotlight, as much as S&M gets a good bash from old school fans, I still enjoyed it (even if it felt like the concert was over done at times) "No Leaf Clover" is a great balance between the orchestra and the band.
They started off as a Thrash metal band (and acted like one), but transitioned into something completely different, my opinion about the whole Metallica issue is that, they should've called it a day as Metallica after releasing "And Justice For All" and adopt a whole new gimmick for releasing the rest of their catalog. I think they should've went on under the name "The Che'Yeahs" (just imagine how many more times James could get away with it, they would've probably ended up releasing an exclusive iTunes medley, with a bonus DVD)
Hate em or love em, Metallica helped pave the way for today's metal, and the amount of people that owe James and Kirk for being the reason they picked up a guitar are countless, so as long as they are making music, I'll be one to listen to it, and learn from what they do, and offcourse have a few laughs at some of their stupidity.
I give Death Magnetic a 7.8/10
Songs I really liked: The Judas Kiss, and All Nightmare Long.
Here's a live video for the latest single from "Death Magnetic" for the song "Broken, Beat, and Scarred"
So Metallica released a live video of them performing "Broken, Beat and Scarred" which is the band's latest single from "Death Magnetic" ...... I will say only this I never liked Metallica's live back up vocals.
(I'll save my rants and what not for my review of "Death Magnetic'A" which I'll be posting shortly)
