Finnish extreme metal heavyweights NORTHER are currently recording their 6th studio album titled "Circle Regenerated" at Astia Studios in Lappeenranta, Finland with producer Anssi Kippo.

The band uploaded the first video update from the studio, which is actually the youtube famous hitler scene where he flips out when he finds out that the band bought the wrong drum heads for the recording sessions. It was pretty funny to see them pointing out the 2 girls sad over Petri's departure, as some fan girls took it really bad when the news first broke out.

In other NORTHER news (quoting the official press release):

NORTHER and Metal Hammer (Germany) have teamed up to give you the chance to create the artwork for the upcoming NORTHER album “Circle Regenerated” which is set for an early 2011 release! The band comments on the new album & contest:

“The Norther crew is about to enter Astia Studios (http://www.astiastudio.fi/) in October to record our 6th full length album, with Master-producer Anssi Kippo (Children Of Bodom). This time we wanted to do something different with our upcoming album artwork. We wanted to involve our fans in a creative way! Therefore we’ve decided to team up with Metal Hammer Germany to announce an open competition - to design our next album cover art!

If you have a steady hand and can draw or paint like Da Vinci, take part and submit your work to our label Century Media until October 15th. We and the Century Media guys will select the top 10 candidates, who will enter the next stage of the contest which will be a public voting on Century Media’s home page. There you’ll be able to vote for the best cover-artwork until October 31st. The artwork which got the most votes will be selected as our next album cover. In addition to the first prize Metal Hammer will offer some great prizes for the four runner-ups which will include next to an exclusive Meet & Greet tons of other goodies which will be revealed on metal-hammer.de

Here’s also some more info on our upcoming album: It will be named Circle Regenerated, so the cover should somehow reflect that theme. To give you some more clues about our brand, Norther is an old English word and is a "strong wind blowing from the north". We have also heard that listening to our music helps getting in the right mood.. ;)

We are super excited and expect to see some killer stuff! Let the battle begin!!!

- Norther”

A personal side note:

I really hope you guys enjoy the album and the diverse line up of bands it has to offer. All the bands on the release deserve your full support.

This project has taken about 4 month to finish, initially it was planned out as a 2 month project, but there was a good amount of surprises that kept pushing the release date, which also meant that work on the blog had to be slowed down to make ends meet, but ultimately I'm really proud of the outcome and the support it has received during the making, and really hope everyone will keep supporting the album after they listen in.

It's a free giveaway, all we want in return is for you guys to support these talented bands, visit their sites, check out more of their music, and if you think they kick ass, buy yourself a CD or a t-shirt, tell you're friends about them, post their links to you're Facebook, Twitter, Myspace or other social networking accounts, and make sure to visit Metality because that's where you'll find all their latest updates along with our coverage of all that is Metal from around the world.

A Huge THANK YOU To:

All our promotional partners for their support and for contributing to their respective scenes in the utmost professional matter.

Spirit Crusher who is officially a part of the Metality Crew, for all his help and support during this project, and for the great writing over the past couple of months. You will certainly be seeing a lot more material from him (and his band).

New Breed Studio for designing the cover art, and flyers for the album. The guys have been more then friendly to work with over the course of this project, and made sure that we get the most satisfying results.

Finnish power metal extremists Norther uploaded a new song titled "Break Myself Away" for free download at this location.

Although the song is offered free of charge, the band have set up a paypal account welcoming donations that will be used to cover recording costs for the band's 6th studio album.

Norther is a Melodic Death Metal band from Finland whose style incorporates elements of Heavy Metal and Power Metal. Many critics often compare Norther's sound (particularly of their first album) to that of Children Of Bodom's, but upon a second listen you would realize that Norther brings a completely different brand of extreme to the table.

The band are actually good friends with the guys from Bodom, and have been for a while. I got the chance to ask Kristian (Guitars/Back up vocals) about whats new with Norther, future releases and more!

Here's how it went :

Horns: Whats going on with Norther lately ?

Kristian: We just came back from our Canadian tour and we are still going to play in Spain and Russia this year.

Horns: You guys are good friends with Alexi and Children of Bodom ? ever considered doing something together?

Kristian: We have done something together already. In our version of youth gone wild there's Alexi and ex guitarist Alexander Kuoppala shouting their guts out.

Horns: Does Petri's commitments with Ensiferum clash with the bands schedule?

Kristian: Usually no. Sometimes it can also be vice versa. But we have a good relationship with everyone from Ensiferum
as well as from Wintersun so all is fine (Jukka plays in Wintersun)

Horns: Any plans for a DVD release?

Kristian: YEs but not yet, maybe in 2009.

Horns: Who is your favorite band to tour with?

Kristian: Dunno... Turisas was great :D

Horns: Which bands are you guys currently listening to?

Kristian: The Haunted, Cynic, Arch Enemy, Mnemic.

Horns: Did you listen to the new Metallica ? if so how much do you hate it?

Kristian: No, but don't hate it either.... just not my cup of tea.

Horns: Would you like to add anything?

Kristian: Rock like hell and hell like rock!!!

I'd like to thank Kristian for taking the time to send me feedback !
