"A Word" With Antti Wirman from Warmen !
Warmen is a Neo-Classical project by Janne Wirman, Children Of Bodom's Keyboardist and also the brother of Antti Wirman (Ex Kotipelto, The Scourger) the band's guitarist.
They have released 3 studio albums so far and they are working on their 4th release at the moment.
The band started out playing mostly instrumental music, with guest singer Kimberly Goss (Sinergy) appearing on a few songs on their debut "Unknown Soldier" but with every album, the band added more elements and more impressive guest musicians to collaborate with on the project.
Their second release "Beyond Abilities", had Timo Kotipelto of Stratovarius fame tear up a couple of tracks, who also contributed lyrics to the album and others.
On the third release "Accept The Facts" Janne's fellow COB member and frontman Alexi Laiho guests on their cover version of Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching Me"
All Warmen releases so far, had something involving the 1984 Acadamey award winning movie Amadeus which centres around the life of legendary composer Mozart.
Songs like "Salieri Strikes Back" and "Return Of Saleiri" are couple of tracks about Antonio Salieri the Italian composer who was portrayed as Mozart's demise in the movie.
Quotes from the movie are used also on some tracks.
I got the chance to ask Antti about the upcoming release, his other projects, whats he currently listening to, and more.
Heres how it went:
TMR: Hows it coming along in the studio ?
Antti: Great! Drums are done, rythm guitars are done. And It's sounding very nice!
TMR: Can you tell us about the sound you guys are going for on the new album ?
Antti: I thinks It's a bit heavyier than before. I mean the guitar riffs are more aggressive and so... And there's less instrumental songs than before.
More singin this time!
TMR: Any guest musicians announced for the upcoming release ?
Antti: No, but they are about to! If everything goes as we planned there is going to be a special surprise for everyone.
TMR: Do you guys plan on shooting a video ?
Antti: I don't think so.
TMR: You have worked on other projects like Craydawn and Kotipelto, any other projects your working on lately ?
Antti: I joined a band called The Scourger about a year ago. Old school thrash metal type of band. Lots of great gigs and parties! hahaha! I think we'll release a new album next year.
TMR: From all the Warmen releases, which is your favorite song ?
Antti: aww.. this is a tough one. I really like Lying Delilah, Puppet and They All Blame Me from Accept the fact album. And Salieri songs from every album. Hard to name only one...
TMR: Which bands are you currently listening to ?
Antti: Lamb of God, Paul Gilbert, Journey and Testament.
TMR: Do you still play the piano ?
Antti: No. I haven't played the piano in 18years! I just find the guitar more interesting for me.
TMR: Would you like to add anything ?
Antti: Be sure to get the next Warmen and The Scourger releases next year!
I'd like to thank Antti for taking the time to answer my questions !
Make sure to keep an eye out for the upcoming releases from Warmen and also The Scourger.
