UAE based metalcore face melters, Coat of Arms, posted a new performance clip for the song "Slowly Pick Up The Pace." The song is taken from the band's latest studio album "This is Manslaughter" out now.

Genre: Metalcore

Label: Self released

Release date: April 1st, 2011

Reviewer: Mark McGuire

Its that time in the local music scene in the UAE again. The time when one band manages to scrape together the resources to record a well-produced record for the masses and stand out from the competition.

Coat Of Arms have been paving their way to the forefront of this music scene for some time and by all accounts have been doing it right. Previous albums and releases project an image of a band that can only improve. And improve they have. The group have a blistering stage presence resonant of every band they take influence from and music that echoes modern metal giants in the international scene.

This Is Manslaughter is a ten track album that establishes competency and progression for artists in the UAE’s hardcore music scene. Although at times it would seem that the lyrics should begin with “Dear diary, school was tough today and the other kids don’t like me…” there is passion and melody in these songs. Vocalist Baillouni has a symphonic vocal style when it comes to his clean approach that is altogether harmonizing and satisfying, while drummer Kareem Karameh has done a particularly good job on this record, with sweeping blast beats and well placed double bass work. A hardcore band can often only be as good as their drummer is capable and Kareem is more than capable in Coat Of Arms.

What makes Coat Of Arms' music stand out from a great deal of the hardcore bands that have came and gone in this music scene is that the music sounds ‘uniquely prosaic’ in regards to something one would be taking a trip to virgin to pick up. In essence This Is Manslaughter is at the peak of local music scene quality and slipping into international standards. “Premium Metal” if you will.
Perhaps it is time for Coat Of Arms to decide whether they are ready to take this transitional step into the big leagues, because This Is Manslaughter is an album that if passed into the right hands could be their ticket upwards and outwards.

Tracks to look out for – Ballad Of The Mariner, 212, Slowly Pick Up The Pace, Timepieces.

METALITY UAE recently caught up with the finalists of the "Musician's Warehouse/Metal Asylum RAM Battle," that features UAE's best hard rock and metal bands battle it out for the title "RAM MASTER (Rock and Metal Master)."

METALITY favorites Coat of Arms (Metalcore) will be facing off against hard rockers Riff Raff on January 28th at Club 7, Park Regis Hotel.

Our sister site METALITY UAE caught up with the bands to get their thoughts on the final round of the competition, as well their two cents on each other, among other topics.

Here's an excerpt from both interviews:

*Coat of Arms Interview

Metality UAE: What do you think of Riff Raff and are you worried?

Coat of Arms: We’re definitely worried about Riff Raff. They’re a great band that sound extremely tight, and are particularly smart when it comes to their arrangements. They won the 7th Rock night, so they can’t win that and then suddenly become a bad band overnight, so they’re definitely strong competition. We think they’re strong favorites, purely because Rock always comes off stronger than metal when it’s done properly (which they do). Fundamentally, any band that wins a competition becomes stiff opposition by rule of thumb. With all that said, we hope we can put up a good fight and in the case of both bands, form is temporary but class is permanent.

*Riff Raff Interview

Metality UAE: What do you think of Coat of Arms and are you worried?

Ray: Seen these guys twice now and have been very impressed. I’d say I was a fan but we can’t get too buddy buddy now can we. . . . healthy respect is what I’m preaching here. But best of luck to them. It’s going to take a quality performance to win this thing…….

Sean: They are f***ing great! Saw them first time at the thrash metal gig you guys organised and we were blown away. My wife even likes them and she was an 80s chick! I’m not too worried because if we put a good set in, we should at least come second…

Johnny:
Call me old fashioned, but i just cant be doing with all that Death Metal Thrash Slaughter Kill, Kill, Kill bullshit….that said…they do fcukin good job at it!

The final round of the RAM Battle takes place January 28th at Club 7, Park Regis Hotel. Click here to visit the event's page for more information

NERVECELL is already booking dates around the UAE; getting ready to unleash their 2nd full length album "PSYCHOGENOCIDE" and the follow up to 2008's highly successful debut full length "Preaching Venom."

And then the band will be headlining Club 7, Park Regis Hotel on February 4th, with support coming from Eye, Concast, and Mooonshine; while DJ Storm will be spinning vintage extreme metal through out the night.

[PRESS RELEASE]

Metal Asylum Open Air 2010 is the first metal and rock festival in Dubai organised purely by an independent organiser based in Dubai. It is also the first local festival with just one international headliner and seven local bands.

Metal Asylum Rock & Metal night decided it was high time Dubai’s musician’s have a chance to play an awesome outdoor gig and, more than that, get to share the stage with a headliner that is both well-known and well-loved here in the UAE.

And so, the idea of Metal Asylum Open Air 2010 was born. The festival will feature seven of Dubai’s top bands, from hard-hitting rock to thrash metal – Metal Asylum Open Air has it covered, plus one outstanding international metal headliner, Hatred.

Dubai favourites such as the granddaddies of Dubai death metal, Perversion, will share a stage with local metal newbies Coat of Arms.

Organiser Quote:
“After the success we have had over the last two years I think it is about time for Metal Asylum to do something unique and different to help the UAE music community. The local bands deserve an open air festival like any other international band and that is the whole point of the festival. I have seen Hatred two years ago and they were fantastic and I saw more people headbanging to them then for the headliner, so we thought we must get them back here to headline our festival and, you never know, maybe this time people will headbang more to the local bands!” says Rodi Hennawi, Metal Asylum Open Air organiser and creator of Metal Asylum Rock & Metal Night.

A personal side note:

I really hope you guys enjoy the album and the diverse line up of bands it has to offer. All the bands on the release deserve your full support.

This project has taken about 4 month to finish, initially it was planned out as a 2 month project, but there was a good amount of surprises that kept pushing the release date, which also meant that work on the blog had to be slowed down to make ends meet, but ultimately I'm really proud of the outcome and the support it has received during the making, and really hope everyone will keep supporting the album after they listen in.

It's a free giveaway, all we want in return is for you guys to support these talented bands, visit their sites, check out more of their music, and if you think they kick ass, buy yourself a CD or a t-shirt, tell you're friends about them, post their links to you're Facebook, Twitter, Myspace or other social networking accounts, and make sure to visit Metality because that's where you'll find all their latest updates along with our coverage of all that is Metal from around the world.

A Huge THANK YOU To:

All our promotional partners for their support and for contributing to their respective scenes in the utmost professional matter.

Based in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Coat of Arms blends influences from a wide variety of genres, to create a distinct sound easily in the modern metal spectrum.

The band is comprised of:
  • Rayan Bailouni (Vocals/Guitars)
  • Sam (Guitars)
  • Liam (Bass)
  • Turky (Drums)
Currently promoting their 2nd full length album titled "Inheritance" the follow up to their 2009's "State of Mind." Coat of Arms are quickly gaining recognition around the local scene for their blend of Nu Metal, Hardcore, Punk and even some Screamo. The band is influenced by such acts like Opeth, Lamb of God, KoRn, Slipknot, A Day to Remember, Alexisonfire, and the list goes on.

"Split between love songs, political songs, self-analytical songs, and heartache songs. A very common theme is being in a gray area with a lot of issues." Comments front man Rayan Bailouni on the band's lyrical themes.

"Whether it be a relationship, life, or self esteem. I try to reflect a lot about that region of your mood where nothing is certain. I just find that place to be the most interesting when it comes to people cuz it’s the only time when you really think about things."

Continues
Rayan:
"I think the best way to describe both the lyrical theme and the style of music is by putting the two together I would say. A lot of the music sounds very emotional (not emo, but very dramatic in the aesthetical sense). Like a lot of the music is very uplifting and “big” if that makes sense. I wouldn’t say it’s a very aggressive album where we thrash out and go bonkers on speed and sweeping.

I would say it has more of that enclosed feeling you get when you listen to some bands. Its one of those styles where the music is paced, controlled, but heavy. Its like a person who’s ridiculously worked up about something that instead of screaming out and going ape shit, he slowly grunts out words and cautions everyone. "

On the band's new album Inheritance:
"The idea behind the name being that all those lyrical themes and ideas are a constant factor in human life. Moves from generation to generation, that things like those I mentioned are almost instinct, almost genetic because we all go through those moments."

Listening to "Open The Dams" you immediately sense the modern metal vibe, with the band's tight musicianship and strong structures, the band does not comprise from the second the song hits, till the last note, filled with intensity and melody the band create guttural bridges to accompany big choruses.

Earlier this year the band released in collaboration with fellow UAE based band Vint Edge a tribute to Michael Jackson by covering his hit single "Dirty Diana" managing to leave their own modern touch on the song.

Coat of Arms are a solid band to look out for, there is no doubt that the guys are on the forefront of the modern metal scene in the Middle East and certainly worth your listening time and support.
