[PRESS RELEASE]
Benevolent’s co-founder (guitarist/co-vocalist) Hadi Sarieddine has confirmed that the band is nearing the end of the writing and preproduction process for the debut full length album, which is the follow up to the highly touted Divided EP (2010) which saw the band take the Middle East metal scene by storm, leading the Lebanese-founded metal band into the signing with Spellbind Records alongside Middle East metal icons Nervecell.

Hadi describes the material as
“dramatic, technical, uneasy, and progressive” stating that the album is a step up from the bands’ previous work and pushes the band’s limits and boundaries ahead.

“This album’s definitely a fine blend of lots of dramatic moments, the songs are heavier than before and I think it’s an honest attempt at pushing our artistic limits further”

In talk about the songs in the album, Hadi had this to say

“The songs are longer, the soundscapes and textural backgrounds are there and there’s a whole new tuning on the album…I think there’s only one or two songs that share the tunings used on Divided EP and I’ve taken that as a conscious decision, I wanted to explore writing riffs in different tunings…it felt like uncharted territory for me and that definitely got the creative juices flowing!”

The band will record the debut untitled full-length with Sajid ‘Sarj’ Masood who worked with the band on Divided EP and has been repeatedly cited as one of the main factors that allowed the band’s sound to be experienced in the manner that it did. Though the band has not set a date as to when the recording of the album will start, the album is expected to be out in stores through the spring of 2012.

Benevolent had previously announced the release of a single in 2011 prior to the end of the year, however, this had been changed and confirmed by Fadi (band’s co-founder and lead vocalist) that the song intended as a single will indeed be featured on the full length instead.

“We had a song planned for release as a single through Q4 of 2011 and though we haven’t released that song yet it will SURELY be featured on the debut full-length, it’s one of our favorite songs!”

On a final note, Hadi has been blogging on the progress with regards to the Benevolent album in addition to other things such as songwriting and production methodologies, do check out the blog at hadibenevolent.blogspot.com to keep up with all the updates!

Just an hour ago. The beasts of the middle east, NERVECELL, confirmed that they will be supporting heavy metal icons METALLICA on their upcoming show in Abu Dhabi, UAE at the Yas Arena on October 25th.

The show has just turned from a big international act performing on new territory. To... History in the making!

Genre: Death/Thrash Metal

Label: Spellbind Records (Middle East)/Lifeforce Records (Europe)

Released: March 31st (Middle East), May 2nd, 2011 (Europe)

Reviewer: Kareem Chehayeb

Nervecell is by far the most successful band in the history of the Middle Eastern metal scene. What they have accomplished has inspired many others to try and do the same. Essentially, you probably live under a rock if you haven’t heard of Nervecell and happen to live in the Middle East. Psychogenocide is Nervecell’s second full-length album, and it has lots to live up to, after their huge success with Preaching Venom in 2007. Psychogenocide was released in the Middle East under Spellbind Records, and under Lifeforce Records in Europe. The lineup still consists of Barney (rhythm guitar), Rami (lead guitar), James (vocals/bass), and Psychroptic drummer, Dave Haley, recording drums - talk about a deadly alliance!

What I always enjoyed about
Nervecell is how they used Middle Eastern influences without sounding cheesy and tacky. They apply it subtly to their influences, which sound a lot like Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, and even Nile to a certain extent. Psychogenocide has more Middle Eastern influences in there, but they also upped the amount of brutal death metal in there too. I can’t say I disapprove one bit!

The album opens up with Anemic Assurgency, a 2 minute chilling intro track with the “oud” being played with what sounds like tympanis, cymbals, and a couple of Arabian percussion instruments. There are some light backing tracks too in the background to fill up the atmosphere, and it sounds awesome.

Upon An Epidemic Scheme comes in and all hell begins to break loose. James comes in with a growl that sounds in a different range, and I knew that I was going to love this. Though I will never complain about a vocalist’s range being too similar, I think it’s awesome how James is going for mid range vocals in some parts of the album without getting rid of his lower growls, which are incredible as is. The way the song is structured reminds me a lot of Symbolic-era Death, where there was the experimentation of different time signatures and offbeat rhythms, but using it sparingly to make the song a bit more unique, unlike many bands today….

All Eyes on Them is the next track and while it delivers the same skull crushing riffs Nervecell always deliver, I can’t help but say that the interlude in this song is incredible: the short clean portion, Rami’s short but sweet solo, and the heavy breakdown with James’ growls and incredibly tight riffs. I was really impressed with the song.

The next song is one of my favorites off the album: Amok Doctrine. Though I am usually the passive stander at the metal show, observing the band’s gear and watching the musicians play, I would be a 15 year old again and headbang to this till I can’t feel my neck. The black metal-esque verse is incredible too. James tends to use high screams to layer his growls in various parts in this song and it sounds incredible. Of course, I can’t help but to notice another great interlude with this song. The riffs have a great groove to them and the leads sound great and memorable. Just like in their last couple of tracks, they use a variety of different riffs but keep them well connected. The title track, Psychogenocide, is another excellent song. I felt a little bit of Necrophagist in the intro, which always makes me happy. If anyone wants to hear the dynamic variations in James vocals, I think this the right song! It’s incredible, and I can’t help but to applaud Rami and Barney as well for the riffs on this song too.

Shunq (To the Despaired…King of Darkness) features Karl Sanders from Nile doing vocals with James. James growls in Arabic, and Sanders growls in English; holy shit. This is definitely a track you can’t miss from the album. While Nervecell aren’t the first metal band to have Arabic vocals (Kaoteon have done so in the past with Anthem of the Dead), they did a great job with it. The combination of James' deep growls (which have gotten deeper since Preaching Venom – somehow) and Karl Sanders raspy growls combine incredibly well! This song has a consistent groove to it but gets incredibly technical and sounds more like Nile and Necrophagist. Of course, Rami plays a beautifully phrased solo towards the end. I think that solo in particular is my favorite off the entire album.

The Taste of Betrayal is an instrumental track that is a lot more atmospheric and somewhat mellower than “Ratios” that was on Preaching Venom. I did enjoy the use of traditional percussion instruments in the middle of the song, before Rami unleashes an eerie guitar lick that ultimately ends the track.

Driven By Nescience
comes after and puts this album back on its brutal course. It comes in with no fancy introduction with a groovy breakdown that is bound to stir up some chaos in a moshpit. I can’t help but to praise Dave Haley once again; he is an incredible drummer! A notable feature in the song too is the black metal like interlude. I thought it gave it a cool atmosphere, and I always felt that Middle Eastern influences could go hand in hand with some black metal.

All in all,
Nervecell somehow raised the bar again. They came up with a unique new album that had all the great things Preaching Venom did, but also added something new without changing to the scope of the band. I’ve definitely been following Nervecell religiously since I saw and met them at Dubai Desert Rock Festival 2008, but I can’t help but say that this is one of my favorite Death metal albums that came out this year, and definitely one of my favorite death metal albums in general. This band constantly impresses me, and I wish I could say something negative about the album. I’d give this a 10, but no album is perfect, so this will do:

Finnish metal veterans AMORPHIS have now confirmed their first performance in Dubai, UAE at the upcoming "Mutt Rock Festival" taking place on December 9th.

Other killer bands confirmed for the show include: THE SANITY DAYS (featuring former members; Steve Grimmett, Grice, Jase Stallard and Alan Jordan of British iconic thrash metal band ONSLAUGHT), as well as GREAT WHITE and none other than the UAE's mighty beasts, NERVECELL!

The official headliner for the festival is yet to be announced. But it is rumored that it's going to be a big name in the North American metal scene. Keep an eye on the official Mutt Rock Festival Facebook page for more information.

We'll leave you with a personal favorite from AMORPHIS' 2006 release "Eclipse" out now via Nuclear Blast Records.

UAE death metal juggernauts NERVECELL, posted the first webisode for the recordings of "PSYCHOGENOCIDE" on their official Youtube channel.
For some reason I can't find it in me not to type the album's title in all caps. Because seriously that's one sick title, as you read it you can sense it's a title meant to be screamed out loud, and not said by your normal speaking voice.

What I'm trying to get at here is that "PSYCHOGENOCIDE" is a death metal beast charged with thrash metal intensity and sprinkles of middle eastern influences to give it the fuel to run on full power from start to finish. It's a package of full blown brutality that should be owned by any self proclaimed middle eastern metal head. And now European metal heads can find out what all the heavy is about.

The webisode also features footage of PSYCROPTIC monster drummer Dave Haley laying down his venomous fills! Seriously, if you didn't order this record in CD or digital form by now, then you're a douche. You can find links to buy it everywhere below.

Dubai based death metal beasts NERVECELL have announced that legendary guitar icon KARL SANDERS (NILE) will be featured on their upcoming, highly anticipated album "PSYCHOGENICIDE" out March 31st via Spellbind Records (Middle East), and April 31st via Lifeforce Records (Europe) on the song "شنق – Shunq (To The Despaired…King Of Darkness)."

The band released the following press release:

We are extremely proud to announce that Karl Sanders will be a part of our new album "PSYCHOGENOCIDE" as guest vocals on the song entitled "Shunq (To The Despaired…King Of Darkness)".

This particular song is special to the band as it will mark the first extreme metal track ever to include both Arabic lyrics mixed in with English lyrics, and who better else to have come on board and collaborate on this theme with us than the legendary Karl Sanders!

The word "Shunq" in Arabic has two meanings: to choke or to be hung by the neck. The song consists mainly of ideas and knowledge gathered from sources that speak about Lucifer and the demons that serve him. The song "Shunq (To The Despaired…King Of Darkness)" speaks about the battle of us humans and these demons in reality, in the end Satan himself brought forth to justice.

"PSYCHOGENOCIDE" will feature a total of 10 new songs and can be viewed below:

"PSYCHOGENOCIDE" tracklist:

1. Anemic Assurgency
2. Upon An Epidemic Scheme
3. All Eyes On Them
4. Amok Doctrine
5. Psychogenocide
6. Imprint

8. The Taste Of Betrayal

"PSYCHOGENOCIDE" is scheduled for release on Spellbind Records on March 31st 2011 in the Middle East and Lifeforce Records on April 29th 2011 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and on May 2nd 2011 in the rest of Europe & the UK. The CD cover artwork was designed by Björn Goosses of Killustrations (ABORTED, SEVERE TORTURE, ZYKLON) and is a concept, which NERVECELL has been working on for quite a while. The band is said to be "extremely proud of how it has turned out" as it "perfectly matches the aggression and musical direction of the new album."

The artwork has been a concept, which we have been working on for quite a while within the band and we are extremely proud of how it has turned out, perfectly matching the aggression and musical direction of the new album.

Tony "Demolition" Dolan is an English heavy metal veteran and actor. Who's most notable musical endeavors include being the bassist/frontman of legendary extreme metal band VENOM; as well as fronting Atomkraft.

In acting, Tony Dolan was in a number of films; such as being Mr Lamb in 2003's Master and Commander: The Far Side of The World.

Earlier this year, Tony, along with former VENOM bandmates Jeff "Mantas" Dunn (guitar), and Antony "Antton" Lant (drums; also the brother of VENOM frontman Conrad "Cronos" Lant) formed the new band Primevil, and are currently working on their debut album "Hell To The Holly;" scheduled for a March 2011 release.

Spiritcrusher got a chance to ask Mr. Dolan a number of questions about his latest project Primevil, and their future plans. Tony also shares a couple of funny tour stories, and gives his 2 cents on some of our favorite bands from the Middle East, among many other topics.

Here's how it went:

Spiritcrusher: Hi Tony, how are you doing? Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Tony: That is my pleasure. I am doing well..been a tough year but all is on track now. Priming for 2011 and beyond now.

Spiritcrusher: First of all, what inspired the formation of Primevil? Venom fans will know that Prime Evil is the first album with your involvement. How would you describe the sound of Primeevil as opposed to the sound of Venom?

Tony: Well I think it came about as Mantas and Antton who were both doing separate music projects (Dryll and Def Con One) came together in Dryll. Mantas needed a drummer and Antton offered his services, people kept wondering what it would be like if Mantas and Antton played with me and it was kind of "oh yeah that would be fun, perhaps" but then Dryll played a show and performed the Venom track Black Metal and that was kind of it. People started saying I had to come in and play too. See what happened, so I got a phone call and had a few chats with Mantas and that was that; we decided we’d see if it worked. It does, very well but then again myself and Mantas have always been friends and played well together. The addition of a drummer as good as Antton was something too cool to pass up! The name we decided should be chosen by the fans who wanted this to happen. The first Venom album I did was Prime Evil in 1989 and that was the name the fans chose for this band. PrimEvil is old school I guess, melodic, heavy, powerful, different from Venom? Not sure. We will inevitably be compared as we are all ex-Venom and of course Mantas was the main songwriter for Venom so... But I feel we are more like classic Metal. Motorhead, Black Sabbath....Priest and Venom.

Spiritcrusher: You guys have a few tracks up on your Myspace account, and they sound excellent! Can we expect an EP or an album coming up in 2011?

Tony: Thanx, yeah (we have) a few trax around. 8th Gate, the follow up to Venom’s 7th gate, Hellspawn, a song dedicated to our fans, Hell To The Holy, the title track for the new/debut album and Wake Up Dead. The idea is to release a vinyl through Iron Pegasus around Feb 2011, featuring 6trax..4 covers of songs that influenced us to do what we do and 2 new PrimEvil trax. In march we will release the full album, Hell To The Holy, through an as yet undisclosed label.

Spiritcrusher: What have you been doing in your free time that is not music related? Do you pursue any other hobbies?

Tony: I don’t get much time for hobbies apart from training with weights and fighting. As I also run the stage at the Dominion Theatre in London on the Queen Musical, We Will Rock You and that takes up lots of my time. I also do some acting still on the side when I can. I watch TV when I can and listen to music as much as possible.

Spiritcrusher: On a less serious note, do you miss your long hair?

Tony: Erm.....lol....No....!!YESSSSSSSSSS...No!..hahaha. Actually I can’t freaking remember it..been about..22yrs or something now!

Spiritcrusher: Do you have any pre-gig traditions/rituals that help you get psyched?

Tony: Not really. I do like some peace and quiet, to just think and get psyched. I like some weights and to get aggressive, as I wanna deliver the songs with the correct vile and spit!!

Spiritcrusher: Who was/were your favorite band/bands to tour with throughout your brilliant career thus far?

Tony: To play alongside, ah.. Exodus. Slayer were great to open for in ’85 here in London. We played the bill in ’88 with Destruction and Testament, that was great! Nuclear Assault were great fun. Atrophy were a great bunch of guys and real cool sound. Onslaught...UFO, Girlschool...can’t think, lots more....King Diamond, Savatage, Candlemass..Nasty Savage, Exumer...Agent Steel..all cool bands....I was very lucky to be sharing audiences with these bands I think.

Spiritcrusher: Is there a place you would like perform in one day that you haven't played in before?

Tony: The Middle East. Australia...New Zealand..Japan...China, all of Asia...South America...all over Europe...India...Africa. Turkey....everywhere I guess....lol!

Spiritcrusher: Speaking of tours, can we expect any national or regional tours by Primevil?

Tony: Yes from March 2011 the plan is to begin touring and not stop until we have been everywhere we want to play.

Spiritcrusher: Can you tell us a few embarrassing moments of your touring experiences?

Tony: Erm, maybe not..hahahaha...well..once in Germany I had to run across a road very drunk to escape the Police with my trousers around my ankles...lol...dunno why, drunk!!!

I did a show once after eating 3 meals and played the whole show resting against my cabs with my pants undone. I got thirsty and reached over to drink from a can of coke on top of my cabs, only to find out that someone had been putting their cigarettes out in the can all day..."Mmmm..nice!" Other than that I was a very good boy (NOT!) hahahahaha, can’t say any more than that.

Spiritcrusher: Here on Metality.net, our goal is to bridge the gap between the Middle Eastern metal scene and the the rest of the world (especially Europe and North America). We thought it would be neat to show you three bands from the Middle East and have you say a word or two about them.

Tony: Having bands from Egypt is amazing and the Emirates, Kuwait, equally so. The fact that metal is everywhere is something people don’t sometimes get. I so wish we could come play, these bands have great potential. In India there is a real difficult struggle for the metal fans and to be accepted by everyone in India. I hope the barriers of religion can allow and not restrict the freedom of music. It makes us breath and free’s us and is vital to young people, especially Rock/Metal/Punk. As it is the scream we all share whilst growing, long may these bands live and may they enjoy the success they deserve!

Tony: This is very cool....Scarab from Egypt..I LOVE IT!!

3. Voice of the Soul - Kuwait - Unsigned

Tony: Someone needs to sign these guys!!

Spiritcrusher: Tony Dolan, the floor is yours! Any final words for Metality, Metality readers, and the Middle Eastern metal scene?

Tony: Hand in hand we rule the world. There is no difference between ourselves and our talent and our music.

Cultural views and religious heritage may differ but we all scream the same. I
hope we keep growing and the gap closing. Between the Middle east and Europe and the World. After all; makind walked out of Africa and in the Middle East founded civilization, and from there we moved to inhabit the rest of the world. Empire after Empire, country after country ruled the know world and religious thought and faith changed as we grew and changed our views etc. But what stays fundamental is mankind's basic nature. Our PrimEvil side. If in no other way we can connect and be a brotherhood through our music then so let it be! Let’s stand as One and FUCK the dissenters!! All the best for 2011 and our glorious future!

Make sure to visit Primevil on Myspace to listen to 4 new tracks taken from the band's upcoming debut album "Hell To The Holly" out March 2011.
Dubai based deadly thrashers, NERVECELL have completed writing their "as-yet untitled" new album, and wrapped up pre-production. The band will be heading into the studio next month to record the follow up to 2009's (CRUSHING!) debut release, "Preaching Venom" out now via LifeForce Records.

The "as-yet untitled" new album is expected for an early 2011 release through Spellbind Records (Middle East) and LifeForce Records (Europe). In terms of the album's sound, the band states:

"The new songs are sounding aggressive, fast and dark! The fans can expect a heavy dosage of old school death metal, modern thrash metal, intertwined with our touch of Eastern melodies and brutality. Needless to say there will be more exciting news and surprises featured on this new record to follow."

Sounds like one hell of a blended punch of brutality!
