"A Word" With Matt Moore From Rumpelstiltskin Grinder

The guys formed around 2002, with members from the now defunct black metal bands Solace In The Shadows and Evil Divine.
In 2005 the band released their debut album "Buried In The Front Yard" which was one hell of a fresh release in the thrash metal scene, with kick ass songs like "Stealing E.T." "Orange and Black Attack" and "Grab A Shovel".
2009 is the year Rumpelstiltskin Grinder decided to unleash their follow-up thrash slap to the face "Living For Death. Destroying The Rest" ... songs like "Brainwasher C.1655" and "Nothing Defeats The Skull" will break your neck in a matter of minutes due to the amount of head banging you will be forced to engage in once the songs are played.
I got the chance to have "a word" with Matt Moore the band's guitarist and back up vocalist, about the band's new album, joining the Orange and Black Attack, modern day Metallica, running naked on stage, and a lot more.
Here's how it went:
iRoar: First of all I'd like thank you for this opportunity, hows everything going at the Rumpelstiltskin Grinder Headquarters?

Matt: Well it's March now...working on getting tours going for the summer and beyond and also writing new tunes. Our last two records were almost 5 years apart...the next one will be much sooner. In addition to that we've been looking into counterfeiting money and trying to get a government bailout.
iRoar: Your new album "Living For Death, Destroying The Rest" has been getting great reviews and it certainly kicks a huge amount of ass, are you happy with the release?
Matt: I'm pleased with the response for the most part. It seems like people who don't care about trends or whats "in" really get into Rumpelstiltskin Grinder. If anyone wants their music to be bland they should look the other way. This album is our most recent tribute to the Gods of Metal...and we only hope to glorify the metal gods further with the next one.
iRoar: You guys manage to put a great blend of metal in your music, which bands influence your songwriting?
Matt: King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Sepultura, Iced Earth, Death, Dissection, Morbid Angel, The Crown, SOD, Dark Funeral, Immortal, Marduk, Anthrax, Manowar, Disfear, Suffocation, Emperor, Testament, Pantera, Venom, Helloween, Blind Guardian, Metallica, Megadeth, God Dethroned, Hypocrisy, Respect Demanding Hardcore, Church Burning Black Metal, Demon Summoning Death Metal, and Drunk Driving Thrash
iRoar: The video for "Nothing Defeats The Skull" was recently released (and is fucking awesome), can you tell us a little bit about the song and the idea behind it?
Matt: That's the first one we wrote for the new record. The video shows us in one of our warehouse/office complexes preparing for a days worth of crime. The criminal acts occur: A Car Jacking, a Purse Snatching, and an Embezzlement. We bring the loot back to our HQ where we present it to the SKULL in tribute.
The riff in the chorus of this song is something I wrote in high school...never found the right song for it until now.
iRoar: Are you guys still recruiting new members for the Orange and Black Attack?
Matt: We continue to join forces with the strong and wise and cast aside the weak and foolish. In todays high stakes crime that involves getting the US government to willingly hand over billions of dollars, all plans must be executed to perfection by highly trained and qualified criminals.
iRoar: Can you tell us a bit about the secret society that Rumpelstiltskin Grinder is part of?
Matt: We prefer to stay under the radar when it comes to specific operations. What I can say is this: Our thievery is enacted for the greater glory of all true metal and to ensure the integrity of metal trueness even in times of economic turmoil.
iRoar: What do you think of modern day Metallica?
Matt: The last 4 albums are absolute garbage...completely irrelevant in any metal conversation. However I agree with the majority about the brand new one...it's not THAT bad but it's too little too late. The first 5 albums are gems that will never be duplicated by any band...yeah you heard me right...even the black album!
iRoar: Which bands are you currently listening to ?
Matt: Blind Guardian, Decrepit Birth, 16, Unsane, Draconian, Dissection, The Green Evening Requiem, Suffocation, Mercyful Fate, KRS One
iRoar: Can you share with us one of the crazy stories that happen on the road with you guys?
Matt: One thing that comes to mind is when we all ran across the stage naked in Quebec City during Disfear's set at a show we played with them.
iRoar: Thank you so much Matt for doing this, would you like to add anything?
Matt: Avoid having a shitty life! Do cool stuff!
Make sure you head over to the band's Myspace to thrash off to some awesome metal and for more information on getting your hands on "Living For Death, Destroying The Rest"
