"A Word" With Roger from Sonic Syndicate !

Sonic Syndicate's "Love and Other Disasters" is ripping apart the metal scene at the moment, the band recently released their second official video for "My Escape" directed by the genius behind the lens Patric Ullaeus (In Flames, Arch Enemy, Children Of Bodom, Dimmu Borgir, Evergrey)

We got the chance to catch up with the band's awesome Lead Guitarist Roger Sjunnesson, and ask him about his favorite song on the new album, the sound they are going for, chances of playing in Dubai and more. Heres how it went :

Horns: Whats your favorite track from "Love and Other Disasters"?

Roger: I have a lot of favorite tracks from this album. I Like Encaged, Jack of Diamonds, Contradiction and Red eyed Friend. But the track I have listened to the most is probably Powershift. I love everything that happens in this song and we..ll probably shoot a video for it next year.



Horns: Can you describe the sound you guys are going for on the album?

Roger: We wanted a very clean and modern sound that can attracts more people than just metal heads. Metal can sometimes sound very rough but in our music you can hear every instrument for itself, and that’s what we wanted.



Horns: Do you think that smoking and drinking before a show, hurts the performance of the individual using?

Roger: I don’t smoke and I never drink before a show. Maybe one beer is ok, but nothing more. Everyone in Sonic Syndicate takes our live performances very seriously and if you drink before you lose a lot of control and focus and that hurts the show. I..ve played wasted one time and that show was a complete mess so I guess it will never happen again.


Horns: You guys are all over right now, playing everywhere. How do you like to pass time while your on tour?

Roger: While you are on tour you always have a lot of spare time to kill before the shows. Sometimes we might have some interviews and other shit, but usually we kill time by playing games, watching movies, hangout in the city or doing some sport activities.



Horns: Who is one musician or band you Idolize?

Roger: When I was young I was a big fan of Iron Maiden and bought everything they were doing like cds, clothes and shit. Today I’m still a fan of them but don’t listen to them that much. I also feel a lot of respect for Alexi Lahio in Children of Bodom and Jonas Kjellgren in Scar Symmetry (who also produced our latest album).



Horns: Which bands are you currently listening to?

Roger: We are right now in a middle of a tour as a supporting act for In Flames. So I guess I listen to them a lot. I also like the new All that Remains and Amon Amarth album.



Horns: Did you get a chance to listen to the new Metallica?

Roger: I listen to Metallica but as I mention before I..m more of an Iron Maiden fan then Metallica. But I like what they are doing and I think the new album is great.



Horns: Would you guys ever come and play at Dubai Desert Rock Festival in the UAE?

Roger: To play in Dubai would be really fucking cool! I know In flames played there last year and I got some friends in Dubai too. So we would love to play there for sure!
