"A Word" With Vito De Francesco from Pyramid Theorem !

BloodGutter returns with another awesome interview with Vito De Francesco who pounds the drums for the Canadian progressive metal band Pyramid Theorem.

Here's how it went:

Pyramid Theorem is a progressive metal/rock band from Richmond Hill, Ontario (a suburb of Toronto.) The band formed in 2006 with brothers Stephan Di Mambro (guitars, keyboards, vocals) and Christian Di Mambro (bass) along with Sam Ermellini (guitars, vocals) and Vito De Franceso (drums). Since then, the band has been developing their unique and electrifying sound and playing local shows in Toronto. Most recently, the band has self-released their debut EP “Voyage to the Star” and has opened for acclaimed Toronto metal band Warmachine. With big plans ahead, I had a quick word with drummer Vito De Franceso about the band.

BloodGutter: What does Pyramid Theorem mean to you?

Vito: Pyramid Theorem is my life.

I really see this band as a way to express myself musically. This band has really grown on all of us and will continue to do so as we move forward as a band. Each of our members play a specific role in what Pyramid Theorem is as a band. If one of our members were to leave the band, then Pyramid Theorem would not be the same. This band is literally my life, I am always thinking about the band 24-7 on how we can set this band apart from other artist’s out there.

BloodGutter: Your music seems like it is all over the place. What are your influences?

Vito: Our music is all over the place because we are influenced by so many different bands and genres that are out there in the scene. Our main influences however are Rush, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Ozzy, Yes, Black Label Society and Genesis to name a few, but the list definitely goes on and on. When you listen to our music you can easily spot out who our influences are.

On a personal level, I know for damn sure that I would not be a drummer if it was not for my father introducing me to Rush at a very young age. Without Rush I would not have been introduced into the progressive metal scene of music because Rush is the main influence for so many different bands, I feel that they are the best representatives of a perfect band.

BloodGutter: Your debut, Voyage To the Star, has been out for a while now. Tell us about that.

Vito: The first track is really in your face and we did that on purpose. From beginning to end, the CD proves to be a diverse musical representation of what Pyramid Theorem is and when listening to the four tracks you can really tell how different and how diverse each member is [to make] Pyramid Theorem what it is and what it will become. Putting our CD in is one thing, but seeing us live is a completely different experience.

Voyage To the Star is our first demo that has four tracks. For a four-track demo it is pretty long. It has opened up allot of windows for us as a band and having something like this to show people shows that we are not just holding an amateur mind set and that music is our life. Having this demo out has given us something to look back on as a band and seeing how we have grown and progressed musically [from] our past working together.

BloodGutter: What’s next for the band? I just found out you guys will be opening for The Agonist soon!

Vito: Yes, opening for the Agonist is a really big opportunity for us, it gives us a chance to play with larger acts as well as new audiences that are unfamiliar with our work. We hope that after seeing us everyone will want to learn more about Pyramid Theorem.

As for what is next for the band… We have alot of material that we are working on. That being said, we are hopefully going to be working on a full-length album in the near future and from there, hopefully go on a small tour to promote our music to different audiences across Canada.

There [are] allot of new things to look forward to in 2009 with Pyramid Theorem so keep posted to our Myspace and we hope to see you at the next show.

Sayonara!!
